Crown wins iF Design Oscar and more
In recent months, the new Crown GPC 3000 low-level order picker has picked up not one but two international design awards.
The prestigious iF product design awards are fiercely contested – this year there were a total of 2,808 entries from 39 different countries, of which just 50 were awarded the coveted “Design Oscar” – the iF product design gold award – in recognition of their outstanding design characteristics. Evaluation criteria include aesthetic quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, ergonomics, visual appeal, safety, branding and overall design. The GPC 3000 Series – a perfect embodiment of Crown’s ongoing emphasis on ergonomic, operator-friendly working environments, energy-efficient motors and regenerative braking – scored highly in all areas, carrying off a gold to add to the company’s impressive collection of design awards.
Last year, the GPC 3000 was recognised with the Good Design Award for 2008. Run by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, this international award recognises visionary innovation in industrial design. The competition attracts entries from hundreds of companies and design firms around the world, and covers a wide variety of manufacturing activities. The focus in 2008 was on designs that showed sustainability and true concern for the environment – an area in which Crown’s resource-efficient trucks and vehicles excel. The company’s commitment to user-friendly innovation has already earned numerous awards in the USA and Europe.
The new GPC 3000 Series of low-level order pickers are designed to deliver superior driving performance, fatigue-alleviating comfort and other key enhancements that help to reduce and simplify operator movements both on and off the truck – innovative features that increase productivity, safety and sustainability. These features, combined with others such as Crown’s own heavy-duty AC motors, industry-leading Access 1 2 3® Comprehensive System Control for systems monitoring and onboard diagnostics, and regenerative e-GEN™ braking system, all help to deliver sustained but safe performance, high throughput and long-term value.
