Customer Spotlight / Work Assist Vehicle Wave Safeguards Jobs

Wave Work Assist VehicleFor safety reasons, the company Charles Vögele has chosen Crown's Wave® Work Assist Vehicle for order-picking at its site in Sigmaringen.  Ladders and the associated dangers when climbing up and down are therefore a thing of the past.

''We were looking for a machine that would help us to order-pick safely. When we saw the Wave, it was immediately obvious to us that this was the solution'', remembers Peter Kohler from the distribution logistics department.

The Swiss company Charles Vögele retails low-priced clothing for the whole family at 338 branches in Germany. 140 of these branches are supplied from Sigmaringen. Items such as shirts, T-shirts and sweatshirts are stored in the warehouse in 120 x 80 x 80 cm wire cages, which are stacked up in piles of three. On the third level, order-picking is only carried out using the Wave. A team of ten women pick the orders for the branches every day from 7.00 to 16.00.

Right from the start, it was important to division manager Barbara Teuteberg that all of her colleagues were able to operate the Wave. ''We trained all our people to operate the Wave so that we can continue working at full capacity during holiday times or when there are absences as a result of illness.''

Vögele also chose rail guidance for the Wave, because the employees can then concentrate on order-picking without having to steer or manoeuvre at the same time. Employees can move the operator platform to the desired height with the push of a button and can also continue to drive with the platform raised. The employee stands on a cushioned platform with padded wrap-around safety rails, while the goods are transported on a steel load tray positioned in front of the operator.

''There are no other machines that allow staff to order-pick small items both safely and efficiently - this is why we also recommended the Wave to our colleagues at the Swiss headquarters and at the central northern German site in Lehrte.'' explains Peter Kohler.
