Crown PE 4500 Used in Display of Fuel Cell Capabilities

President George W. Bush and PE 4500 Series Pallet TruckPresident George W. Bush witnessed the power of fuel cells when he had an opportunity to see a live demonstration of a Crown PE 4500 Series powered by a fuel cell.

President Bush has set a challenging but achievable energy goal to reduce gasoline consumption by 20 percent over the next 10 years. The President’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative recognizes that hydrogen fuel cells represent one of the most encouraging, innovative technologies being developed.   During a visit to the GrafTech International facility in Parma, Ohio, President Bush had a chance to view a fuel cell-powered PE 4500 Series pallet truck in operation.  GrafTech manufactures flow field plates, a key component in fuel cell power generation.

Crown President Jim Dicke III and Project Manager Jim Schloemer participated in the fuel cell demonstration in Parma.

“It was exciting to see President Bush have an opportunity to see an actual demonstration of a fuel cell powered lift truck,” says Dicke. “As a technology leader in the lift truck industry, Crown is committed to supporting our customers in the emerging hydrogen economy.

“Crown is actively engaged in supporting the development of environmentally friendly alternative fuels," adds Dicke.  “Crown has been working closely with Cellex/Power Plug for many years in the design and development of fuel cells.  We have been involved in on-site testing with customers in actual distribution centers and with major international retail companies."

The Crown PE 4500 used in the demonstration has a well-deserved reputation for durability, offering the lowest cost of ownership in its class. The PE 4500 is built to hold up in the harshest applications - from freezers to dock work.

Crown lift trucks are further distinguished by a commitment to technology and innovation.  These qualities are evident on the PE 4500 which features Crown’s exclusive Access 123® Comprehensive System Control. This technology monitors and controls all of the truck’s systems including braking and lifting to ensure unmatched performance, reliability and the lowest cost of ownership.

Crown manufactures material handling equipment referred to as electric forklift, fork lift trucks, pallet trucks and more.
