Crown has utilised all its resources – both in manpower and equipment – to help supply the essential goods and services vital to the nation’s wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Crown’s priority continues to be the safety of its workers, its customers, their families and their communities. With the onset of lockdown, the company acted immediately to get staff operational from their homes as quickly as possible. It was then able to turn its attention to the logistics industry’s task of maintaining an uninterrupted supply of essential goods, such as food and medical supplies.
The need for robust and reliable material handling equipment has rarely been as important as it is during the current emergency. With the need to keep vital supply chains operational, the ability of Crown’s equipment to perform consistently is particularly critical. Without operating at peak efficiency, the ability of the logistics industry to fulfil its requirements would have been in jeopardy.
Crown forklifts were used by key workers helping with the mammoth task of keeping the NHS supplied with essential face masks, the Royal Logistics Corp being drafted in to help with the supply work.
Elsewhere, Crown UK customer, Dave Bagley, CEO of Bolton-based charity Urban Outreach, was grateful for the support offered by the company during a time of crisis.
He said: “We went from handling around a ton of food a week to nearer 8 tons; from usually providing food for 200-300 people each week to over 2,000. We soon realised moving this magnitude of food by hand was going to kill us before we had even begun; along came Crown Lift Trucks UK to our rescue with an ET Series stacker!”
“The next day, 10 tons of food was delivered, and we nailed it. To date nearly 20,000 people have received emergency food, people isolated and alone had a hamper delivered to their door that reminded them they were not alone and for a small charity, enabled us to be up to task. So, thank you [Crown] not just from Urban Outreach, but from each of those 20,000.”
Furthermore, Crown has prepared a Pre-Shift Cleaning Program to thoroughly clean forklift trucks prior to their return to service. All work is performed by trained technicians equipped with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Special attention is paid to all the surfaces repeatedly touched.
To help operations remain at peak efficiency while observing social distancing rules, Crown has introduced a range of new instructional signage and linemarking solutions, acting as a constant reminder of the need to stay safe.
Simon Barkworth, Managing Director, Crown Lift Trucks UK said: “In times of crisis, the ability of a company to come together and pool its skills and resources for the benefit of the greater good is vital. I could not be prouder of Crown’s response to the emergency and for the role it has played in helping to promote the nation’s wellbeing.”
